Steve Lund Obituary

Steve Lund

May 17, 1969 – March 10, 2024

Stephen Jon Lund suffered a cardiac event that took his life on Sunday evening March 10th, 2024.

Steve was born May 17, 1969 in Fargo, ND to parents Gordon and ElDonna (Cox) Lund. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1987. He attended the University of Minnesota-Crookston where he studied Ag and Machining. He received a degree in Airframe and Powerplant from Dakota Aero Tech in 1992. Steve met the love of his life, Jody Jewison in 1996. They were married in Hawaii on January 27, 2006 and were blessed with their daughter, Olivia on August 6, 2014. They made their home on the family farm near Enderlin where his parents started their marriage 63 years ago.

As a little boy he said to his parents, “Why do I have to go to school? I’m just going to be a farmer when I grow up!” Steve started driving tractor at the age of 9 and rented his first farmland in high school.  He operated his farm ever since, and started Lund Excavating. Being able to maintain and repair his own equipment is something he took pride in.

Steve loved speed and adventure too. From downhill skiing to snowmobiling, along with motorcycles, race cars and eventually airplanes. He loved circle track racing and won lots of hardware as a builder and driver.

His dream of being a pilot started with a ride in Dan Lindemann’s Stearman, and his passion for aviation was ignited.  He bought his first airplane and earned his private pilot’s license in 2007. His dream of owning a Biplane came true when he bought a 1943 Stearman before he was even certified to fly it and later built his own grass runway on the farm. Some of his favorite moments were taking “his girls” or friends up for a ride on a perfect evening.

His life revolved around family, friends, farming and flying.  He loved his family and being a dad to Olivia. She was the light of his life. He taught her to drive the combine and how to fabricate things in the shop. Steve loved to take Olivia and Jody on ranger rides, or to just sit around a fire with them.  Their time in Hawaii with friends and family provided many adventures and treasured memories.

Steve was known to many as an easy-going and loyal friend.  He would show up for people and offer advice and repairs anytime it was needed. He had a passion to do all things to the best of his ability, often leaving things better or more “automated” than he first found them.  He could fabricate or fix nearly anything. His friends would say “No need to Google, just call Steve.” Steve had a true quest for knowledge. He was not only an excellent student but one of the best teachers, happy to share his wisdom to help others learn too. When he wasn’t farming, he was working his excavating business, up in his plane, visiting with or helping his friends and neighbors, or just hanging out with his family.

Steve leaves behind his wife, Jody; daughter, Olivia; parents, Gordon and Donna; two siblings - a sister, Kristi (Craig) Skramstad and their daughter, Miranda and - brother, Tom (Kelsey) Lund and their children, Shelby (James) Prante and son Rowdy, Taylor (Dylan) Claus and children Wrenley and Tate; Payton (fiancé Nate Rolph) Lund and baby Scottie Jean, Bristol and Carter.  He is also survived by Jody’s family – her parents, Douglas Jewison and Judy (Darin) Hamre; siblings, sister, Laurie (Chad) Perreault and their kids, Jamie(Zack) Eichten, Kaitlyn (Joe) Keith and Madison Perreault, brother, Jayson Jewison, brother, Shane Jewison, sister, Rachael Sand and brother, Jeremy (Stef) Jewison and their sons, Tyler Halstenson and Bentley Jewison.
