Katharine "Bonnie" Haglund Obituary

Katharine "Bonnie" Haglund, a devoted wife, loving mother of seven, cherished grandmother of 20, adored great-grandmother of 11, and beloved friend, passed away on April 12, 2024. She was born February 13, 1941, to Katharine Martin Haak and Willam Haak, the eldest of five siblings. Throughout her life, Bonnie's warmth, kindness, and vibrant personality touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Bonnie's journey began as a dedicated student, aspiring nurse, and devoted Catholic. Although she left nursing school before graduation to marry her beloved Lawrence "Larry" Lohman and raise their seven children, her passion for caring for others never waned. She later pursued her dream of becoming a nurse, working tirelessly as a nurse's aide before obtaining her nursing degree. Bonnie's compassionate nature shone brightly in her roles as a nurse at various facilities and as a hospice nurse, where she provided comfort and support to countless individuals and their families.

After the loss of her husband of almost forty years, Larry, Bonnie met and married Stephan Haglund and enjoyed a wonderful friendship and companionship with him until he passed away in December 2023. Bonnie and Steve moved from Texas to Casselton, N.D. and thoroughly enjoyed the benefits of living in a small town. Bonnie loved to sit outside and enjoy the quiet, relaxed pace of living in a small town. She enjoyed being in nature and watching the birds and squirrels play and enjoy the feeders she provided. Bonnie loved flowers and had a green thumb that showed in the many plants and flowers that decorated her home.

Family was at the center of Bonnie's life, and she reveled in being a mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating cherished memories and traditions. Bonnie was a creative cook, made delicious homemade treats, especially her cookies, banana bread, caramel rolls, egg on an island, and her signature holiday sherbet punch that packed quite the punch were enjoyed by her family and friends. Her home was always filled with love, laughter, and delicious food. She also passed on her love of decorating, crafts, and baking for the holidays to her children and grandchildren.

A social butterfly with a knack for making friends wherever she went, Bonnie cherished her friendships dearly. She looked forward to her weekly hair appointments, always embracing new styles with flair. She enjoyed lively conversations, delicious meals, shared laughter, a nice wine, music and dancing her entire life. Her love of socializing, sharing information (gossip) added a touch of excitement to her gatherings, creating lasting memories and cherished bonds.

Bonnie had love for animals, owning many in her life, and she found joy in caring for her birds and cats, Smudge and Boots. She shared a special bond with her daughter's Persian cat, New Hope, and their daily phone conversations brought her immense joy. Bonnie's love of reading, playing games on her phone/iPad, watching TV, especially crime shows like NCIS and Bones, and indulging in seafood and sweet treats brought her much pleasure.

She took considerable pride in her children and grandchildren's achievements, never missing an opportunity to celebrate their successes. She loved to watch her grandchildren’s events of football, basketball, band, dance, track, and robotics. She had a love of NASCAR, learned from her husband Steve, which added excitement to her leisure time activities.

Bonnie's legacy of love, compassion, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness and grace.

She is survived by her children: Katharine “Kathy” King, Aubrey, TX, Marty (Lisa) Lohman, Fargo, ND, Patricia “Patty” (John) Logan, Grapevine, TX, Debbie (Wally) Waswick, Fargo, ND, Lora “Chelle” (Lee) King, Chaska, MN, Suzanne Lohman, Pottsboro, TX, and Scott (Rose) Lohman, Aberdeen, SD; 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; siblings Patricia Haak, William Martin “Mart” Haak, Gerald “Gerry” (Michelle) Haak, and sisters-in-law Susan Haak and Irma Haak.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Katharine Martin Haak and Willam Haak, her first husband Lawrence “Larry” Lohman, her second husband Stephan “Steve” Haglund, her brother Lloyd Haak, and her grandson Matthew Lohman.
