Gary Herbert Vetter, 73, passed away April 21, 2024, at St. Catherine's Nursing Home in Fargo, ND from complications of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's.
Gary was born in Benson, MN to Herbert and Muriel (Bang) Vetter on January 3, 1951. He graduated high school in Stoughton, Wisconsin and from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, earning a bachelor's degree in music education.
Gary eventually moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming, where he met and married the love of his life, Marcey. They moved together to Williston, North Dakota where he went to work in the oil field industry. He expanded his education and obtained a computer science degree and worked in Bismarck for the State of North Dakota at the Retirement and Investment Office, retiring in 2014. Gary and Marcey then moved to Fargo to be closer to their grandchildren.
Gary will be remembered for his love of family, baking desserts, bike rides, and running. He also had a love for the many birds they cared for over the years, teaching them to talk and whistle.
Gary is survived by his wife, Marcey, and daughters Angela McCarvel and Denise (Luke) Graunke; grandchildren Jameson McCarvel, and Benjamin, Brooks, and Natalie Graunke; siblings Bob (Dee) Vetter, Marlys (Gary) Wulfsberg, Ruth Vetter (Vince Fox), Janice Vetter (Paul Finger), Harold (Emily) Vetter and Lois (Denny) Anderson; sister-in law Marian; and in-laws Hosea and Shirley Roe; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Center for Avian Adoption, Rescue, and Education (CAARE) in Fargo, ND.
