Darlene Rott

Darlene “Gladys” Rott, 86, of Fargo, ND died April 13, 2024. at SMP Health – St. Catherine’s South, after a lengthy illness.

Darlene “Gladys” was the sixth child of Karl and Ottilia (Zimmerman) Schock, born on the family farm north of Ashley, ND. She was welcomed by Ella (David) (Herb) Albrecht, Katie (Arthur) Schaffer, Emma (Ben) Ulmer, Harold (Olga) Schock, and Darlene Schock who died of rheumatic fever before Darlene “Gladys” was born.

She stayed on the family farm until marrying Darwin Wolf in October 1957. To this union was born Claudia (Michael) Urlaub, Gillette, WY, Debra (Richard) Fuehrer, Dickinson, ND and Daniel (Lisa) Wolf, Moorhead, MN.

In June 1983, she married Bennie G. Rott of West Fargo, ND and gained a step-son, Darwin (Marian) Rott. This marriage brought her to West Fargo, ND.

Her years of being the opening cook at the Oakes Café, while living in Oakes, ND, landed her the position of head cook for the Fargo Senior Commission at the West Fargo high rise. She loved planning and cooking meals for the senior citizens that ate there and would serve 200 people for special holiday meals. Baking was also a big love of hers and at Christmas would bake enough to have a holiday gathering at the high rise and more for friends and family.

Traveling on guided tours was a very special time for her. She was able to see many eastern states this way. Family trips gave her the chance to see several western states. Spending time with family brought her a special joy.

She leaves behind her three children, seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and spouses, both husbands, Ed & Lu Milligan, Donald, Darlene and Shirlee Ulmer, step-son and wife, two nephews and one niece.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Living Hope Baptist Church in Fargo, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024 at West Funeral Home & Life Tribute Center in West Fargo, ND.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
